DVNO by Justice, 2008.

Watch it first, then see this discussion about the visuals in it. This song is incredibly catchy… “I-L-Y-A, four capital letters….”

Don’t sleep on this duo, by the way. More to check out:

Is This Cam’ron?

March 2nd, 2009 by Reggie

Cam’ron’s been out of the public eye for some time now but he’s returned with a nice bit of new material.

While on hiatus Cam was taking care of his mother. She had three back to back strokes and was completely paralyzed on one side of her body. He was with her all day and night until she didn’t need him anymore in that capacity. That’s what he said in the current issue of XXL Magazine.

So now he’s doing interviews (you’ll read ours soon) for his upcoming album “Crime Pays,” which comes out on May 5th 2009 (I’m guessing more like November something).

“I Hate My Job” is typical Cam. Typical as in not what you expected at all, but still good. And he’s like that cause he’s never been scared to take risks. I know I’m making it sound like this video isn’t amazing–it’s not, it’s just an okay song. I’m just more a fan of “Killa Season” Cam.

Produced by Skitzo House–the beat is chill and interesting enough to keep you listening. Cam’s versatile as usual, this time rhyming kind of a bit subdued, kind of like the tone someone would have as they sadly confessed that they hated their job. The first verse Cam rhymes from the perspective of a fed-up girlfriend working a 9 to 5. The second is from the perspective of an individual like Cam, who’s had run-ins with the law and done time, listens to potential employers use his past against him as he tries to get a job. The third verse is about “the Cam character” coming home to find out that his fed up girlfriend has changed the locks because he’s been unsuccessful.

I guess this song works in the sense that it sets the tone for his album title, “Crime Pays.” If you want you can listen to the the more recent and equally interesting, but easier to like “I Used To Get It In Ohio” produced by the young wizard AraabMusik. Watch this first though. It leads into “I Used To Get It In Ohio.” I’m sure that’ll be on “Crime Pays” also. As will “Cookies and Apple Juice.”

Jim Jones OC Show Review

Maria March 1st, 2009 by Maria

Ok sorry I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been busy. Mostly with school starting and work and lots and lots of play. I’m just doin my thing enjoying life and every sale on shoes and clothes the recession has caused stores to start.

Anyways there is a reason for me writing today. I went to a small local club on Monday (February) the 16th to see Dipset rapper, Jim Jones, perform. I would not have even been at the event if it wasn’t for the wild antics that took place days before on Thursday at the same club.

So on Thursday nights I promote an 18+ club in Orange County. So of course I attend to dance, get free drinks at the bar, network and meet new people, and of course make money off the people who do come. While doin’ my networking thing, I met a few guys at the bar who were promoting for the upcoming Jim Jones show. After talking to them for a bit they gave my 2 girlfriends and I each a ticket for the show. So we were stoked about that cause I wanted to go anyways and didn’t wanna pay for the tickets. Only minutes later over the loudspeaker we hear “I need 3 ladies who want Jim Jones tickets up to the stage.” So one of my friends goes up to the stage.

I’m still at the bar when the glorious idea of going up to the stage just pops into my head like a light bulb. I say to my other friend, “watch this!” In my state of tipsiness and at a fast-paced walk I go up to the stage, walk up the stairs, walk between 2 girls who are standing in front of the guy holding 2 tickets out, and grab the tickets out of his hand and run off the stage giggling. I walk back to the bar and show my friends and say “look what I got.”

Story of my life: us girls get away with everything and get whatever we want.

I just had to share the story with you all cause it makes me laugh.

So about the night of the event. So we got there expecting to see Jimmy perform around 11. You always see other groups, much less famous, perform beforehand. There were about 5 groups. All local guys. Every 15 minutes the guy on the mic would give us an update on when we were going to see Jim Jones. First, he would be there at 11:30. Then 12. Then 12:45. I don’t even remember the times after that but it just kept changing. I was just trying to pass the time dancing and having fun with my 2 girls and my swagged-out arm-candy (HA) and our entourage.

Our good friend Jimmy didn’t arrive until 1:45 am. (Clubs in Cali close at 2 am) He came in through the side door where we could see him walking past the stage, behind his 7 ft. Tall bodyguard. He goes up on stage and performs 3 songs. Some freestyle that I have never heard before, “We Fly High,” and “Pop Champagne.” His performance lasted less than 10 minutes, and no I’m not just saying that. His performance was probably around 6 minutes.

Thanks Jimmy. Glad I didn’t pay for the tickets. There was a cameraman and photographer in his face the whole time and his bodyguard on the left side, along with a whole gang of people on stage. You could barely see him. And I was right up front. I suppose it was cool just to “see” the guy but I was disappointed with his performance. I still support his music and will buy his upcoming album. I’m just a little heart broken by his lateness. His performance gets 2 stars out of 5.
