Horrible by Design

The Nets’ move to Brooklyn has complete and utter failure written all over it. Taking a team already struggling (in every sense of the word) in the shadows of Madison Square Garden and moving them directly into the line of fire.

In any case it appears as though the Nets will move to Brooklyn. Here’s the article discussing the unveiling of the Nets’ new arena, from the AP

NEW YORK — A new design for the Brooklyn home of the Nets features weathered steel and glass, with a canopy that juts out like the bill of a baseball cap.

Developer Bruce Ratner unveiled the new design for the Barclays Center on Wednesday. It replaces a design from renowned architect Frank Gehry.

The Barclays Center is the centerpiece of the multi-building Atlantic Yards project.

Ratner took Gehry off the $1 billion project in June, citing cost concerns. He was replaced by the firm Ellerbe Becket. The price tag for the project was taken down to $800 million.

Ratner said SHoP Architects will be joining with Ellerbe Becket on the design.
