Green Bay Slackers

August 6th, 2008 by Reggie

Green Bay was an interception away from the Super Bowl last season, and they turned down their most valuable player’s request for his job back so that they could instead watch his replacement, Aaron Rodgers, go through his growing pains as a first-time starter. I think the fans just might riot in Green Bay, while fans in New York and New Jersey will be rejoicing. Won’t be the first time.

New York hasn’t been kind to the Green Bay Packers since January when the Giants beat them in the playoffs, but now Green Bay’s been hit where it really hurts and it’s a self-inflicted wound. Brett Favre, cheesehead legend of the last 16 years, got snatched up by the New York Jets in a midnight firesale. By giving up a conditional (performance based) draft pick, the Jets literally got him for nothing.

The Green Bay Packers put the man who until now was the face of their franchise, in a basket, left him on the curb and turned their backs on him for good. The big bad wolf–I mean the Jets, picked that basket up and never looked back. This greedy, evil, little manuver (bulk trash thievery, in my opinion) has such polarized consequences it’s not even funny. Barring injury, (He is on the Madden cover) Favre will cure the Jets of Chad Pennington’s disease and at the same time send the Packers spiraling downward. Let’s be real here; Between the Jets and the Packers, the better team is the one with Brett Favre starting. And they had the human antidote the whole time in Green Bay but threw him in the trash. Somehow he found his way to New York. Aaron Rodgers is nowhere near ready to step in Favre’s shoes as Quarterback and the Cheeseheads are not going to be patient with a losing front office that spurned their hero. I just heard the toilet flush. I hope they washed their hands.
