Make This A Show

July 29th, 2008 by Reggie

Certain happenings deserve to be whipped up into Television Shows and Movies. That’s what this segment’s all about.

You’re really trying to tell me you can’t figure out who his father is? Really?

How about this guy?

It’s funny watching all these reality shows with 80’s and 90’s icons and their offspring, but most of them actually suck. Snoop’s Fatherhood was abysmal. Luke’s show looks slightly better but it wouldn’t top the show I’m proposing.

Could you imagine if the sons of Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky and actors Will and Jada Smith were all on the same High School football team? Right there you have all the ingredients needed to hook people and lock them in. First you have America’s true pasttime, High School Football (Ask anybody from a small town in America what they did on a Friday night in the Fall and you’ll see what I mean). Secondly the air of A-list celebrities is sugary on its own(Ask TMZ). Assuming the show is devoid of sexual material, you’ve got some good, clean, family-fun on your hands.

Well you don’t need to imagine it because the scenario above is a reality, just not a show on TV. All three sons (two sophomores and a senior) attend Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California–a private secular school with the tuition of a private college ($22,000). This school is only eight years old but they’ve already got a winning Football tradition (6 State Titles, 5 straight) and a long list of celebrity offspring alumni. Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame’s quarterback, was the number one ranked High School player in the country in 2006, and his tenure at Oaks Christian played a role in a star recruit’s arrival there.

This Summer, senior Nick Montana transferred to Oaks Christian (from De La Salle in Concord, California) when his dad Joe, relocated to Southern California to pursue business opportunities. Because of this Trevor Gretzky has been demoted to the Junior Varsity squad, leaving Montana to compete with current starting quarterback Tony Macarena, a transfer from St. Bonaventure in Ventura, whose father lifts furniture for a living.

Some dads do get all the attention though. Last season Will Smith was with Tom Cruise watching his son Trey play Wide Receiver on the JV squad, when an autograph frenzy ensued and nobody seemed to notice that Wayne Gretzky was also in attendace.

So, ABC Family, MTV, A&E, ESPN you should all take notice and do what you need to do to finally put a quality High School reality TV show (or documentary, even) together, because this truly is a golden opportunity. I mean that’s what I would do, if you gave me the chance.
