Chima Ferguson

October 24th, 2007 by Reggie

Chima Ferguson is the future of skateboarding. That’s a not a lofty comment. He’s that fucking good. He gives new meaning to dexterity. Plus he’s a Black Australian. I didn’t know they existed. That makes him a phenomenon. One-word description: Beast. Two-word description: Pleasant Beast. Shoutout to Peanut at Volcom.

Where are you from?

Sydney, Australia.

How long have you been skating?

Around eight or nine years. I’m eighteen.

You lived in Australia all your life?

Yeah.

What’s it like there?

It’s cool. It’s chilled out. The weather’s nice. People are nice. Pretty much everything’s nice there.

You go to the beach on Christmas?

Yeah. I spend Summertime at the beach. Go to the beach during the day and afternoon go skate when it cools down a bit.

I dont need to label this one, we all know he landed it.

Who’s sponsoring you?

Real, Thunder, Spitfire, Volcom, Vans and PSV Skateshop.

What’s the last trip you were on?

This one. We just drove from LA to New York doing a Volcom tour. We just made an Australian video that’s dedicated to our friend Shane Cross who passed earlier on in the year. We just drove across premiering the video and doing that kind of stuff.

How long ago did you leave?

It took two and a half weeks to get here.

What spot blew you away?

I liked Atlanta. I’d never been there before. The people there are way different than anywhere else in the states.

How many times have you been to New York?

This is my third time.

What do you like about it each time?

I like the people. I got some friends here. I like that it’s really big.
I like the rugged spots and stuff, the real rough terrain to skate.

The terrain is smooth in Australia?

Yeah.

Like California?

Yeah.

What would you recommend tourists do in Australia besides skate?

If they’re in Sydney, go check out the beaches or check out the city. There’s all kinds of crazy buildings and all types of architecture. If you’re in Queensland you can go to the beach or go surfing.

Who else came with you on tour?

Peanut, Pete the team manager, Dustin Dollin, Jake Duncombe, Lewis Marnell, my friend Jamie he’s a filmer and my friend Su Yung Choi and Andrew Matstone.

You turn pro yet?

No.

When are you turning pro?

I don’t know. I’m chilling for a while.

Shoutouts?

Shoutouts to everyone in Australia and Shane Cross, rest in peace. Body in peace.
