What made you start painting in 1999?

I lived with some hippie guys who were talented artists and one of them kind of showed me a few things. It was a slow progression until I started doing street art then my style changed and became what it is today.

Your art has a zombie-ish character. How did you develop this hue in your art?

Some people must think I’m depressed because of the mood of my work. I find reference material that has that dark moody feel because it speaks to me. My work has been kind of dark for some time. I think I like it that way because of the feel it projects to the audience.

Ever thought of relocating to Colombia to satisfy your coffee dependency?

No, my French press does just fine.

Have you ever panhandled to satisfy your hat and shoe addiction?

No but I will barter and trade art till the day I die.

What made you study Film and Video Production?

I grew up on surfing and skating videos and wanted to learn how to make them myself. I am still very interested in the art of Cinematography.

How has being a husband and father changed you?

They are what drives me to progress in all areas of my life. If it was not for my wife I would just talk about painting and never actually get one done. Before my family I had very little ambition, they quickly turned that all around, for the better.

Walk us through the creation of your brand, Modus Apparel, and where it stands today.

Modus is a dream I had for a few years that finally came to life last spring. I spent a few years figuring out how to start a clothing company and when I actually got to start one I realized I knew nothing. It is an awesome experience. It is way more work than most would imagine.

Right now at Modus we are working on ecommerce. Look out his summer cause we have some tight new designs coming. Check the site for updates.

Your work has a raw claen quality despite its darkness. Your thoughts on family shine through any darkness on the canvas. Inspirational work
